In the context of the current Covid situation, the IAMM has put forth few recommendations. Key action points recommended by IAMM from the point of view of medical microbiologists are

1. Stress testing all SARI cases, rather than SARSCoV-2 alone, to understand our disease burden locally and guide policy accordingly, while continuing to test the travelers arriving in India from countries where the number of cases reported are increasing or report new variants.
2. Laboratory strengthening and capacity building for sequencing so as to be prepared for any new mutants or variants emerging in the country.
3. Develop Indigenous diagnostic kits to be able to detect all SARI cases and not just SARSCoV2. This can be available widely and at low cost if made in India.
4. Training of all healthcare workers to follow standard precautions
